COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A car crash in Lorain County led to the deaths of the passenger and a firefighter as reported by FOX8.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m. Sunday a car went off the road and struck a utility pole causing power lines to fall onto the road.

Columbia Township Firefighter Paramedic Brett Wilson, and his girlfriend Hannah Gallagher, heard the crash and left his home to investigate.

Investigators say that in the dark Firefighter Wilson stepped into a puddle that was energized by the downed wires and killed.  Gallagher was also shocked and left in serious condition.

The driver and passenger in the car exited the vehicle and started to walk across the road.

They also came into contact with the power lines.  The passenger, 27-year old Brent Reszler, was also killed.

Wilson, 23, was with the Columbia Township Fire Department for two years.

A Facebook post from the fire department offered prayers for Wilson’s family as they mourn.
